Close encounters in Gordonstoun

GGS S5 and S4 netball teams put in 2 fine performances in Friendly matches against their Moray counterparts at Gordonstoun yesterday.

The first game saw the GGS S5 team compete against a slightly bigger Gordonstoun S6 team. With the absence of Katrina – the GGS Goal Defence, the GGS girls were struggling, however, it was a great game, with lots of close encounters. Unfortunately Wizzy – who was playing Goal Attack sustained an ankle injury and although she soldiered on – dropping to Goal Shooter for the final quarter, there was no way GGS could close the gap. Huge well done to Lucy [S3] who jumped into to the Goal Keeper position to help the team out, hustling for balls the entire game and getting some fantastic taps in defence.

Final Score: GGS: 15 – Gordonstoun: 32.

Game 2 saw the GGS S4 team take on their Gordonstoun equivalents. It was a hotly contested game, which was only decided in the final seconds when Gordonstoun sneaked a goal to take over the GGS lead. Some dubious umpiring in the last 30 seconds meant that GGS Goal shooters; Nell and Lauren were prevented from taking any shots at goal – as 3 penalties went against them, securing the Gordonstoun win. It was a tough one to swallow – but as Archie Griffin, American Football player once said, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.”

Final Score GGS: 22 – Gorsonstoun: 23
