B & S Food Hub Supporting the Community

The Badenoch and Strathspey Food Hub have been in Grantown Grammar this week distributing snack bags for our junior pupils. The Food Hub are keen to spread the word that they are here to help any families in the community in need of a little extra help. You do not need to be on benefits, or to be referred, you don’t need to be without food or money in your account, you simply might need a little extra help this month due to a large electric bill or rising petrol prices. Please come along to the Grantown YM Food table where there are lots of food and hygiene items free to take for yourself, a friend or a neighbour in need.

Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS)

SAAS provide advice and guidance to our pupils on the financial support available once they leave school.

We understand that at the moment some of our senior pupils will already be on study leave whilst others are still undertaking their exams. However, there are some key messages we are still keen to reiterate.

The Key messages are:

·       The Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) are open for applications for new academic session 2022-2023. Students  can apply now on the SAAS website  and are encouraged to apply before the 30 June.

·       They can apply for their funding online SAAS website even if they have a conditional offer for College or University.

·       If they need help with their online application we are running workshops to offer advice and guidance on the financial support available and their online application. These can be booked here

·       Once they have applied for their funding, they may need to provide supporting evidence. This can be done online using our document upload facility.

·       If they have any questions the SAAS website and the Student Information Scotland website are a great source of information. Alternatively they can contact us for advice.

UHI Inverness Wednesday Night Subject Tasters

Our subject tasters are aimed at anyone who wants to learn something new. Whether you are a potential applicant, current student, or someone who just fancies finding out more about a subject or our campus, these sessions are designed to give you a feel for what it might be like to study with UHI Inverness. All our tasters are run by lecturing staff, and are completely free. Staff will also be on hand in our Student Support Centre to answer questions about courses, applying, funding and support.

Secondary school pupils currently in S3, S4 and S5, and home educators, across the Highland Council region can now apply to study a senior phase programme at Inverness College UHI.

Pupils can pick a senior phase programme as part of their option choices in school for the next academic year (2022/2023).

To support pupils in making their choices, we are holding a Taster and Transition Event at Inverness College UHI, 1 Inverness Campus, on Wednesday 16th February, 5pm to 8pm.

Pupils and their parents/guardians and guidance teachers are invited to:

• Visit the the college and enjoy a tour
• Attend talks on the student experience
• Learn how to write a personal statement
• Experience 30-minute ‘hands-on’ taster sessions from across our senior phase curriculum

Staff will also be available to support and answer questions about our senior phase courses, the application process, learning support and transition support.

No booking is required.

Applications for our senior phase programmes close on Monday 28th March.
